Muskoka Highlands Academy has great plans for outdoor education and community recreation at their new property

Having purchased 200 acres of land off of Highway 60 and to the east the Mark O’Meara Golf Club, the directors of the Muskoka Highlands Academy are busy working with community groups and the Town of Huntsville to determine how much of the property will be used.

While plans to create the school house and a domed indoor fieldhouse are underway, there is plenty more than can be done with that much space.

Sheena Repath, CEO at Muskoka Highlands Academy, not only wants to create a community recreation space for sports activities, but their school is embracing arts and entertainment options as well.

Indeed, discussions about community art installations are in the works, though nothing is set is stone as of this posting.

Making Outdoor Education Attainable

One of the biggest takeaways is the idea Sheena has to make outdoor education available and affordable to more kids throughout our communities.

Currently a private school, she hopes that by building recreational spaces that can be rented out by user groups – as well as hosting tournaments and events – the funding needed can be acheived.

Sheena joined Chris for the first of what will be several discussions about where the plans stand now, engaging community partners like the Huntsville Soccer Club, Huntsville Lacrosse, Huntsville Hurricanes, the Huntsville/Lake of Bays Chamber of Commerce and others.
