Saleem Hall and Chris discuss employment and social services
In the post-COVID world, we’re seeing a lot of people with mental health, emotional health, and employment issues.
The good news is help is available. The bad news is that people don’t always know where to go or how to ask for help (or they’re too prideful to do so).
Well, we’ve all been there. Chris shares how in his late 20’s he found himself laid-off from his first pro journalism job Sun Media and found help at the YMCA Employment Services office in Huntsville.
Saleem, currently working for the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka, explains that the first step is acknowledging you can use a little support, then finding it within yourself to share that information.
Both Chris and Saleem acknowledge the difficulty in asking others for help, with Saleem even joking that he doesn’t “even ask for directions.”
Still, it’s important to get over one’s fear or pride as there are many caring people who just want to see people succeed.
Many of these individuals work in the various programs and services offered by the YMCA. They’re available to help community members find the services they need without passing judgement.
