Enjoy some art En Plein Air

And stop by the BBQ fundraiser while you’re there

Notes from The Huntsville Festival of the Arts with edits and additions from Chris O.

Live art, live music, a BBQ and a lot of outdoor fun await at the first annual En Plein Air Art Market being held on June 24th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at River Mill Park in Downtown Huntsville.

The day-long art market will feature works by 19 local artists and vendors, including live outdoor painting, and live jazz and blues being played by Jack Gaughan & Friends. Cold non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages will be provided by Canvas Brewery, while the Huntsville Strikers U11 Girls rep team is hosting a fundraising BBQ during the event.

Stopping by and purchasing a piece of art or other handcrafted offering, as well as grabbing a bite to eat along the way, is a fantastic opportunity to support local artists and a local youth sports team.

The live painting at En Plein Air is a return to the original event founded and run by Kelly Holinshead of the Shutterbug Gallery.

Artists and area dignitaries are invited to grab an easel and some paint before choosing an outdoor location downtown to inspire their creations. A few hours later, participants have to put down their brushes.

The paintings are then given a bit of drying time before they are auctioned off to the public at 4 p.m., with proceeds going towards the Kareen Burn Visual Arts Scholarship supporting a local student studying visual arts-related studies in a post-secondary institution or program.
