Nursery Nights Finale

Ben Caplan set to entertain with tunes from the past, present and future

Fans of Ben Caplan have a great opportunity to enjoy a live solo performance in an intimate setting on October 22 in Huntsville.

Caplan is the star of the show for the Nursery Nights finale at the Sandhill Nursery as part of their collaborative concert series effort with the Huntsville Festival of the Arts. The show is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.

It’s also the final day of Sandhill’s annual Fall Festival in support of Hospice Huntsville, so head there early and enjoy some of the fun. Learn more about the Fall Festival at: Better Every Year

For Caplan, who has never performed live in Huntsville, but visited the area in his youth, getting a chance to play here was a “fortuitous” occurrence. He was already touring through Ontario for the Festival of Small Halls and the stars aligned when the Huntsville Festival reached out.

“I went to camp not far from Huntsville as a kid and passed through Huntsville on my way to Algonquin Park,” he says. “I’m as a kid excited to see Huntsville for the first time as an adult.”

He is also excited about doing a solo show with acoustic versions of a variety of songs, including some that are known to his fans, some new material, and a few covers.

“I’ll be sampling some of my faves from the catalog of albums I’ve done,” he says. “I’ll also be doing some covers that I enjoy working with and new works that I’ve been developing as well.”

Those new works include a few he’s fine-tuning as part of an upcoming six-piece band project that will be touring both internationally and domestically for a while before hitting the studio to record an album.

Their first show will take place in March at the Ultra Music Festival in Poland and eventually there will be live performances in Canada. Releasing an album after touring the new music first brings Caplan back to his early days as an artist.

He kept writing and performing music live before building his band and collaborating with other artists on his first studio record, In the Time of the Great Beginning.

“I played 200 shows before I made my first record,” recalls Caplan.

As for being on tour and live performances, he says one of his favourite parts is “the fact that it’s here and then it’s gone; there’s only one chance to do this together between the artist and the audience . . . it’s also cool because there is no performance no concert no audience is ever the same.”
