Ghouls, Goblins & Goodies

Fun Halloween events happening in Muskoka

All Hallow’s Eve is almost here and we’re excited!

Some will be trick or treating with friends, others hosting a Halloween party, and more will be staying home to give out candy – which is an essential and most honourable duty!

For those looking to make the most of this year’s Tuesday night of fright (we’ll have Wednesday on our minds in our house) here are some events taking place throughout Muskoka ahead of and on October 31.

Huntsville Haunts

An ongoing display of awesomeness has been up since October 20 at the Hidden Valley Halloween House (238 Woodland Drive). Their amazing decorations are a wonderful site to see and, while it’s free to check it out, they are accepting donations for the Table Soup Kitchen. The Hidden Valley Halloween House asks visitors to keep their visit to between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. daily. The best viewing times are between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.

On October 28, the annual Tiny Tots Halloween Parade takes place in Downtown Huntsville for wee ones to enjoy from 10 a.m. to Noon. Meet at the Town Hall steps. Participating merchants will have treats to give out during the safe and entertaining event. The Tiny Tots Halloween Parade is geared to the littlest ghouls and goblins.

Later in the day on October 28, you can a sneak preview walk-through of Haunters Bay Drive at 280 Hunters Bay Drive from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Every year, the amazing Spencer family (with the support and sometimes help from a few neighbours) sets up an interactive evening of fabulous frights for their visitors. Motorized displays which move and scare, family members dressed in scary outfits, a candy shoot complete with a skeleton head to dole out treats, and much more. This year they are again accepting food donations for the Table Soup Foundation. One ask is to park across the street or down the road but not right in front of their home.

On October 31, there will be Haunters Bay Drive and Hidden Valley Halloween House to visit, as well as The Great Pumpkin Trail community event.

The Great Pumpkin Trail takes place at Muskoka Heritage Place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. (the last site entry is at 7:30 p.m.) The evening of safe, traffic-free trick or treating features pioneer buildings decorated by local businesses and people with themes that are more festive than “scary” for the younger participants.

BRACEBRIDGE BOoS

The main event is the annual Halloween Spooktacular at Santa’s Village that runs on weekends through October 29. The village is open Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with pumpkin bowling, trick or treating, and more on tap.

GHOSTLY GRAVENHURST

On October 28, the Gravenhurst BIA and the Town of Gravenhurst are partnering on the Let The Spirits Rise Halloween event taking place in Downtown Gravenhurst and Trinity United Church from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Activities at the church include an escape room, witch hat toss, scavenger hunt, decorative pumpkin painting, a giant connect four, a costume contest with age group winners, and much more. As well, trick or treating in Downtown businesses will take place with participating merchants handing out treats from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
