Soccer Saturday: March Madness Edition

One and Done thoughts on a few choice topics

Okay, so this is kind of lazy, but give me a flyer on this one … this week I was building my NCAA brackets, playing and coaching soccer, writing for this blog and Dockside Magazine, and fighting a nasty cold bug the whole time.

But, in the spirit of March Madness and the single game elimination nature of the tournament, we’ll give one thought on some of this week’s happenings and upcoming events in the football/soccer world.

Euro 2024 Qualifying Playoffs: The playoff semi-finals were, as the kids these days say, “kinda mid.”

UEFA Women’s Champions League: The real final will be when Barcelona and Chelsea meet up in the semi-finals.

Serie A Femminile (Women): The top two teams, AS Roma and Juventus, have Canadians Evelyne Viens and Julia Grosso providing sold contributions.

Huntsville Indoor League: The Eh Team were fantastic in an 8-8 tied against the champions elect Blue Moon team and they did it with no subs.

International Break Friendlies (held around the globe): It’s ridiculous that nations like Italia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Argentina, and Guatemala should be on a U.S. tour right now (just one example of what’s transpiring) – a waste of resources and not great for the environment either.

MLS International Break Policy: Not much to say other than it’s stupid that this weekend teams throughout the league will be missing key pieces and star players who were called up to their national teams.

Team Canada: Win and you’re in (the Copa America), so just get it done on Saturday at 4 p.m. versus Trinidad and Tobago.

Toronto FC: Shake off last week’s loss and get full points at home on what looks to be a chilly Saturday night – wear your toques and scarves if you’re going to BMO Field.

Okay, that’s it for now … on a side note, my Final Four is still alive at the time of this writing. Ciao For Now!
